NSSO Safety Program

NSSO has replaced the Collegiate Sports Safety Report with a new program, the NSSO Safety Program. Thanks to the participation from those who completed the CSSR, this valuable information, combined with criteria from the nation's leading health and safety organizations, enabled us to prepare this program for you. The NSSO Safety Program identifies the safety products, personnel and procedures that schools, colleges, and sports organizations should have in place to ensure the safety and health of all sports participants. The NSSO recommendations include:

  • Sports safety kit: Sports team should have a complete safety kit at all games and practices.
  • Sports injury simulation: Teams should complete an injury simulation once every year.
  • Personnel trained in first aid, CPR & AED: At least one certified and trained individual should be present at all games and practices.
  • Health screenings and physical exams: All players need to complete a physical exam before they participate in sporting activities.
